Webplace has helped South Australia Police to become the first police service in Australia to launch its own mobile web-based app.

If you visit www.sapolicenews.com.au on your iPhone, Android or Windows Mobile smartphone, you will find a customised view of the website tailored for your device.

The new site gives the SA public on-the-go access to the latest news and emergency information.

With the increasing number of people accessing the internet from mobile devices, it made sense for SAPOL to start to cater to these users.

For government and emergency-based organisations wanting to share critical information with a wide group of people, while delivering the best value for taxpayers, mobile sites are a logical solution.

A mobile site like the one we developed for SAPOL is relatively in expensive to build and easy to keep updated.

On the other hand, if you have a niche audience looking for enhanced functionality such as augmented reality, a native app with a crisp, easy-to-use interface could be the way to go.

However you look at it, the future is definitely more mobile, and more location-based.

You can view the SAPOL media release here.

Nina Stewart gave birth to wee lass at 5:55pm on Valentine’s Day. Dana Jade Stewart weighed in at 7 pounds 13 and is fighting out of the pink corner. Mum, Dana and big brother Vincent are going well, while dad is reaching new heights of caffeine addiction but is proud as punch. Shares in Pepsi are set to soar. From everyone at Webplace welcome Dana and congratulations Nina, Ian and Vincent.

What better way to kick off the Webplace blog than with a little good news. Today SmartCompany website revealed that Webplace was one of the ten (# four) fastest growing IT companies in Australia for 2009 – 2010 (Based on data supplied from Dunn & Bradstreet). It’s something we’re very proud of and validation for our efforts. Webplace has grown steadily since inception in 2003, last year we gained an additional developer and business & operations manager.

The growth I believe has largely been thanks to the strong relationships we’ve been able to build with our clients and the commitment from all of our team to outputting high quality products/services that we have delivered on projects. Our core focus is to ensure that all output from webplace is of the highest possible standard at all times. We don’t have a team of salespeople and the advertising budget has been minimal, which has forced us to think strategically in marketing ourselves. I think these are some of the elements that have provided us with a good foundation to move on to bigger and better things in 2011 and beyond.

2011 is shaping up to be an exciting year for Webplace, we’re currently looking to get some new talent on board in design and development and we will be working towards developing some new income streams over the next twelve months or so. This will require forming new standards with new people in the output of these new income streams.

Anyway, that’s enough blowing of the Webplace trumpet.
