digital.vic.gov.au website redevelopmentThe Government's reference for ICT/ digital strategy
Initially built to host the Victorian Government’s ICT Strategy and associated standards, guidelines and other implementation artefacts, the digital.vic.gov.au website was in need of an extreme makeover in order to be more innovative, collaborative and engaging. Our brief was to produce a clean and simple yet engaging design to demonstrate innovation, originality and leadership within Government.
We commenced this project with a consultation phase, meeting with a wide range of stakeholders to understand the objectives of the website and to determine a common view of success across all stakeholders.
An information architecture was designed based on the ICT Strategy structure. The theme – Discover, Read and Participate – came through during consultation and was used as a foundation for the site design. Wireframes were then produced that showcased the purpose of the website and key interactions. Webplace worked with DSDBI to arrive at a responsive design that met this brief and also pushed the current Victorian Government design aesthetic.
The responsive website is implemented on the WordPress platform. Webplace created a design solution document that outlined the scope of the build, metadata requirements, search behaviour and other key interactions. Webplace developers then built the site templates, ensuring they complied with WCAG 2.0 AA and Whole of Victorian Government (WoVG) standards. An intensive UAT process followed before the site was launched in July 2014.
The website’s bold design for a Government website and clear IA are widely referenced as leading and original aspects by many Government Departments.
